October 10, 2009 - Andrea McGimsey, Loudoun County Supervisor, Potomac District.
Supervisor McGimsey gave us an update about what is happening at the county level regarding energy efficiency.  To find out about the County Energy Plan and other initiatives, please go to http://www.loudoun.gov/energy. She also stressed the importance of coming to the Board of Supervisors public input sessions which are held on the first and third Monday of each month at the county government building in Leesburg.  Of course in addition to showing up, speaking at these sessions and giving your view to the board is even more important.
 
September 11, 2009 - Kristan Cliggett, Loudoun Territory Manager for American Disposal Services.
Kristan told us how she got into the recycling business and a little about how things work behind the scenes as well as a few tips about recycling that few people know or understand. 
 
August 14, 2009 - John Larson, President of New Life Energy
Mr. Larson discussed his current business, New Life Energy, and the use of waste vegetable oil as a vehicle fuel. At the end he showed some of us his diesel SUV that he converted to run on vegetable oil.
 
July 10, 2009 -Tim Gammon, Director of the Loudoun Habitat for Humanity ReStore
Tim gave us an impressive and entertaining summary of how the Loudoun ReStore has been doing since opening just this April. If you need ANYTHING for your home, be sure to check out the ReStore first.  Also they are in need of volunteers to work in the store especially during weekdays. See the website to find out more. They are also looking for a new location in eastern Loudoun County. If you have ideas, let them know.
 
June 5, 2009 - Sean de Launay, Vice President of Operations for Green Home Pro and Sustainable Design Group
Sean talked about home energy self awareness using "T.E.D.", an electricity monitoring device also called The Energy Detective, and his company's approach to home retrofitting.
 
May 1, 2009 - Charles Byrd III, President and CEO of IntelliStructures
Charlie Byrd gave us an overview and the advantages of building with SIPs technology. His company sells and installs Insulspan foam core panels for mostly custom designed buildings around the area.
 
April 3, 2009 - Steve Welty, President of Green Clean Air
Greening homes & buildings to slow global warming and prevent power plant construction. Since buildings contribute 40% of global warming and cars only 17%, they are our best hope slowing global warming.  He explained how controlling & reducing Peak Demand is the critical proactive strategy to prevent new power plant construction and how you can green your home & office’s carbon footprint by both reducing energy use and increasing energy efficiency. The presenter is Steve Welty LEED AP, CIE, CAFS.  Steve is a United States Green Building Council Accredited Professional, Certified Indoor Environmentalist and Certified Air Filtration Specialist.
 
March 6, 2009 - Susan Abraham, Lush Life Landscapes
Susan Abraham discussed her business and how important sustainable landscaping and native plants are to our environment.  Susan recommended a book: 'Bringing Nature Home' by Dr. Douglas Tallamy. She is also involved with the Virginia Master Naturalist Program and its Banshee Reeks chapter.
 
February 6, 2009 - Richard Mendis, Chief Marketing Officer and co-founder of Clear Standards
Mr. Mendis discussed carbon markets and Clear Standards' enterprise carbon management and sustainability software solutions.

Mr. Bucholz talked about President-elect Obama's "New Energy for America" plan and how he hopes it will affect Loudoun County.
November 7, 2008 - Janice Vasko, American Flatbread
Janice Vasko, owner of American Flatbread in Ashburn, spoke about the process of finding mostly local and some organic sources for the items on her restaurant's menu. She also talked about how the current economy is affecting business.
September 26, 2008 - Burke O'Malley, O'Malley Automotive Group
Burke O'Malley owns Sterling Chevrolet and Saturn of Sterling. He gave us his take on the future of hybrids for GM and the competition.
